Wealth, Health, and Happiness

Day 45 (Writing Everyday)

I’ve been thinking about this quote:

The three big ones in life are wealth, health, and happiness. We pursue them in that order, but their importance is reverse.

from: The Almanac of Naval Ravikant

There is a lot of truth to this. People are so focused on their careers, they are willing to sacrifice some of their health for it. I’ve pulled long hours, done all nighters, ignored showering, going to the doctor, and leisure time to go and get some more work done. Oftentimes, people sacrifice their mental health for their work.

For example, many people work a job they hate, a job that crushes their soul, to make some cash.

Of course you need money to survive. But once you have that, the marginal gains you get are small. And ultimately, aren’t people looking for meaning, or a decent quality of life for their family and other people?

And ultimately, those priorities should kinda be flipped. Wealth should be at the bottom. Health should be above that. And whatever is your happiness should be above that.

Those are the things that matter more. A mission. A purpose. Happiness.

Everyone has different meanings for what happiness is. We all have different goals. We all have personal ways we want to help the people and things we love.

This quote has inspired me to refocus a bit on wellness. To focus a bit more on purpose.

We all have one life to live. Let’s make the best of it.

With Love,

Jeffo
